I'm Philip Zimbardo, Professor Emeritus from Stanford University and I'm the President of The Heroic Imagination Project。 I've recently return from a wonderful two week visit to Beijing, Shanghai and many towns in southern China。 And I made many new friends and I realize I have many new fans all over China in high school and college universities。

The reason I'm sending you this video is that I want you to all tune in to 525, May 25th which is Mental Health Day for college and university students。 I understand also that 525 translates into, "I love me" so, in fact mental health begins with what I'll call, "Self Compassion"。 It's important to care for yourself and that means care for your physical self, to exercise, eat healthy and watch your diet, but it's equally important to be socially compassionate, to be kind and caring and always ready to do good deeds for other people。

So, I would like to balance the "I love me" with "I love we" and in China I think there needs to be less competition and more collaboration, more students working together in what I call, "Hero Squads" doing social services in their community。 Ego—centrism should give way to what I call "Socio—centrism" working together to make your class, your school, your family, your community and ultimately China a better place, a more wonderful place。

Now I, of course, add heroism。 Everyone should think of themselves as an everyday hero, willing and ready to do deeds of goodness to other people and make other people feel special。 We do this in part by volunteering your time and service。 If you're a college student, work with high school students to share your knowledge, share your talents and share your expertise。 There is a lot of information that says people who share their knowledge, people who share their time, who volunteer, are happier and healthier。
